Holiday In The Catalonian Capital
On the one hand there are the city beaches and other beaches in the suburbs, which can be reached comfortably with the RENFE. The Spanish national railway RENFE runs between Barcelona and outlying districts, surroundings (”Rodalies”), the rest of Catalonia ( “Regional”), Spain and the rest outside ( “Grans Línies” and “HST”).
Here are some examples of city beaches:
Barceloneta - Barceloneta is known as the closest beach to the city (notable for its appearance in Don Quijote de la Mancha, book 2). There are also many restaurants and nightclubs along the boardwalk. Due to this fact Barceloneta is in the summer months really overcrowded. Barceloneta can be reached with the Yellow Line 4 to Barceloneta. If you come out of the Metro, you just have to walk towards the sea. There is some beautiful Unterkunft in Barcelona near by.
Icaria – It´s the beach behind Barceloneta and it is a lot nicer, but it is still a city beach and easy to reach. That makes this beach section to a popular destination and is also very well attended. If you decide to go to Icaria, you should choose the section behind the marina where the beach is wider. And there is also the possibility to play volleyball. Take the metro, Yellow Line to Ciutadella / Vila Olimpica and then simply walk towards the sea.
Platja Mar Bella Nova - This is probably the most beautiful beach of the city, because it is not so easy to reach and therefore never crowded. Take the Yellow Line to the last stop Poble Nou and then you have to add a 20-minute walk. Try it… it is really Worthing!
Here are some examples of suburban beaches:
Platja Castelldefels – This beach is really popular among the Spanish people. It´ s really easy to go there. Just of the stations Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gracia with the train. The Renfe runs every 30 minutes to Castelldefels Platja. The trip takes about 25 minutes and you can use your normal T-10 card to go to Castelldefels. From the train station it´ s just a 5 minute walk towards the sea and then you already have a broad and long sandy beach in front of the nose. There are chairs and umbrellas to rent, beach bars and surfing and sailing school available. It is the perfect place to enjoy the sun in Spain.
Sitges - Sitges is an old fishing village in the south of Barcelona. The beaches are small but really fine. The special flair in Sitges with its small streets and the beautiful church are really worth to visit. But because of the smallness of the beaches, they are often overcrowded in summer. So if you really want to have a whole day on the beach, you should choose Castelldefels. But if you don´ t want to hang around all day long at the beach but also wandering around through narrow streets or eating traditional tapas, then go to Sitges. You can achieve Sitges also from Barcelona Sants or Passeig de Gracias with Renfe. The train runs about every 15 minutes and you need about 30 to 45 minutes. The return trip costs 5 - € because it´ s in another zone.
Which beach you will visit remains to you. Otherwise you should have been once in Sitges because it´ s a lovely city but also in Castelldefels to enjoy the sun.
Depending on where your Barcelona Apartment or your Hotel Barcelona is located, you can reach these beautiful beaches of Barcelona really easy. Enjoy the sun!
